OUR MISSION
To benefit both cats and community by properly and humanely carrying out a successful trap-neuter-return program for homeless cats in Palm Beach, stabilize colonies and provide nutrition to maintain the health of the cats.
MEET THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
The governing body of Island Cats of PB, Inc. is comprised of local residents interested in the humane treatment of the stray, abandoned, feral and homeless cats living in Palm Beach.
ALLEN AND ZELDA MASON are long time residents of Palm Beach (Zelda since 1963 and Allen since 1986). They were introduced to the feral cat program idea in 2000 by Beth Pouncey and Catherine Bradley when there was no organized program to manage the population. Both are animal lovers as evidenced by their three indoor cats and two nightly garage sleepers. Allen laughs when he tells of the outdoor cats bringing presents to them -- dead rats from the homes in the area that have been demolished. Allen is Founding President and Zelda is Founding Treasurer of PB Cats, Inc. established in 2003. He resigned in 2005 due to health reasons but joined the Board of Directors of Island Cats and now serves as Vice President and Zelda as Treasurer/Secretary.
DAVID LEAVITT created a breed of dog, the Olde English Bulldogge, in the 1970’s. Working with the Chester County SPCA, he was in charge of fostering seized fighting dogs. He designed passive solar commercial sized dog kennels of 60 to 120 runs. He has spent most of his life managing horse farms and always had a full complement of rescued cats living in his barns. David became concerned by reports of PB Cats failure to feed cats after the firing of their longtime feeder and found there was indeed cause for concern, he has tried to improve the care of Palm Beach’s homeless cats ever since. He currently serves as President of the corporation.
LESLIE MOSS began working in Palm Beach in 1993 and was concerned about the deplorable condition of the cats living at her office complex. Having witnessed multiple litters throughout the years and seeing the cats struggling just to sustain life was distressing for someone who has loved cats all her life. "It didn't take long before I realized I was that someone who could do something about it and volunteered to be the on-site colony caretaker," she said. Committed to T-N-R and maintaining healthy cats, Leslie brings years of field experience to the Board of Directors and a committment to the fulfillment of the Island Cats mission.
